On Friday, May 8, 2009 it was the Sharks v. Gavels at the Solo Practice/Small Firms’ 6th Annual Softball Challenge, CLE and Bar-B-Q Picnic at Historic Rickwood Field. The game kicked with Dana Soresen signing the National Anthem. After 2 hours of play, the game ended in a tie for the first time in this history of the event! Commemorative shirts and caps were provided to the players. Special thanks to Freedom Court Reporting again this year for sponsoring this event. View Photos at facebook or myspace.

Door prizes were givne away after the game and then members, judges and their staff enjoyed BBQ ribs, chicken, cole slaw, the works along with their favorite beverage.

On Friday, May 8, 2009 “Chef” Charles Allen presented a 1 hour CLE to section members before the softball challenge at Rickwood Field. The CLE subject was Food Poisoning and Restaurant Liability.

April 9, 2009, members attended the annual Ott Dog CLE Luncheon at the BBA, presente by Judge Ott, who updated the attendees on significant Federal cases. Attendees received 1 hour CLE credit.

Members who attended the Second Thursday Luncheon in March 2009 with Hon. Alan King, Jeffco Probate Court got a earned a bonus 1 hour CLE.

The Second Thursday Lunches are held at the Alabama Power Building. Members start arriving at 11:30 a.m. for lunch from the Cafeteria in back right corner of the Lobby. Our speaker usually starts at 12 noon. We meet in the meeting room on your left past the cashiers.

June 11, 2009 - Donna Cates, a certified divorce financial analyst, will be presenting the CLE, entitled “Fifteen Critical Mistakes Clients Make in Divorce” at our Thursday Luncheon.

5th Annual BBQ Picnic and Softball Challenge

The 5th Annual BBQ Picnic and Softball Challenge at historic Rickwood Field was held on May 9, 2008. Members that attended the free CLE before the softball game received 1 hour CLE credit. Dana Sorensen of LAH, sang the National Anthem prior to the softball game. Section members, Judges and their staff, who played in the softball game, were provided hats and T-shirts sponsored by Freedom Court Reporting. Several door prizes were given away during the game. The winners were:

For the fifth year, the Sharks were victorious over the Gavels. After the game, there was a hard fought skills competition to win a Liberty Lake Pillow-Top Mattress from American’s Mattress. Law clerk to Judge Helen Shore’s Lee, Don Carrol, won the mattress.

Everyone enjoyed the rest of the afternoon with food and beverages.
